Turning an ebook permanently free on Amazon is a great strategy for indie authors to acquire more readers and build their following. And making it happen can take only a couple of days. So, without further ado, let’s begin.
How does it work?
The idea behind how it works is super simple. Price matching!!
The lowest price you can set your book on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform is $0.99. To get lower than that you will have to join their KDP Select Program, which grants you the ability to make your book free for 5 days. But we don’t want 5 days, we want forever.
To make your ebook free forever on Amazon we will have to go old-school and do price matching.
Step 1: Sign up and publish your ebook on Draft2Digital
- Go to Draft2Digital and sign up for a free account.
- Upload your book to Draft2Digital.
- Select all the retailer options given.
- Set the price of the book to $0.00.
- Click publish.
Step 2: Contact Amazon for a price match
Once the book is live on retailers like Barnes & Noble, Google Play, or Kobo you can go to your KDP account and begin the price matching process.
Simply go to Help >> Contact Us >> Pricing >> Price Matching >> Send us an e-mail >> Fill out the form.
To increase the chances of the price match you can put the links of Amazon’s major competitors like Barnes & Noble, Google Play, or Kobo.
After 24-48 hours you should get an email from Amazon to confirm the change and that’s it!
